Veteran Directed Home & Community-Based Services Program (VDHCBS)

The US Department of Veterans Affairs has teamed with the US

Administration on Aging to provide this Program. It is designed to allow

Veterans who are potential candidates for Nursing Home placement to receive

that level of care in their homes. The Program provides the

Veteran with a budget, and allows them to choose their own care

providers in place of receiving care services from the VA Health Care

System. In some cases, family members of the Veteran can be paid for the

care they provide.

How VDHCBS Works

The Program is open to Veterans of all ages and all periods of Honorable

Service; not just War-Time Veterans.

The Prince William Area Agency on Aging (AAA) has a contract with the V.A.

Medical Center in Washington, DC to assist the Veteran and his or her Family

once enrolled in the Program.

Once enrolled with the V.A., the AAA is contacted and a Care Counselor is

assigned to help determine what services, supports and supplies are needed,

and to create a budget. The Veteran then can hire and schedule all Care

Providers, Service Providers and Supplies. The Veteran does not have to

coordinate any payments as that is done by the AAA.

The Veteran or Family Member must first contact the V.A. Medical Center

in Washington DC Social Work Office at (202) 745-8338.

Call the V.A. Medical Center and ask about VDHCBS in

Prince William County and the Cities of Manassas & Manassas Park!
